Looking Back to 2016: A Year of Consolidation for MarsBased

Captain's log, stardate d169.y37/AB

Time flies! It feels almost like yesterday, but it was actually three years ago when we started operating this humble company.

During the past year, 2016, we were involved in a lot of interesting initiatives: over a dozen different development & design projects, growing Startup Grind BCN to over 120 people per event, hiring two more people, working on internal projects (check our last post about our frontend framework called MarsMan) and many more.

In this post, you will find a month-to-month recap of what we've been through during 2016!

How We Created Our Own Frontend Framework: MarsMan (and Why)

Captain's log, stardate d164.y37/AB

2016 was a really challenging year for MarsBased. Throughout the entire year, we worked on about 16 different projects, and even though I joined as a full-time employee in June, I've been involved in most of them in the design, UX and frontend development phases.

Switching projects isn't always easy, especially when dealing with different clients who have different tech stacks and different libraries in every project, or even very diverse visual guidelines.

Luckily enough, we came up with the idea to standardise the visual elements we're using throughout all our projects and grouped them in a library of our own: MarsMan.

Five Reasons Why You Should Attend next Year's EuRuKo

Captain's log, stardate d95.y37/AB

In September, we attended this year's EuRuKo that was held in Sofia, Bulgaria. EuRuKo is short for European Ruby Conference. Four of our Martians headed to the Balcanic country for a week of remote working and to attend this edition of the European Ruby Conference.

Although it is not the first time that we attend a big conference - we've attended Startup Grind Global Conference, BaRuCo or FullStackFest - it was the first time we took this sort of adventure where a big part of the team travelled together.

The outcome of it couldn't be more positive. We've detailed it in five points that you can find below.

It's been almost a month since we started running the Startup Digest newsletter in Barcelona, but we wanted to make it official to everyone.

As you might already know, we organise Startup Grind in Barcelona since April 2014. Startup Grind is a monthly event that aims to connect, inspire and educate entrepreneurs, and it happens in more than 200 cities in over 80 different countries.
