At MarsBased, we have a strongly defined company culture. We believe that in order to compete with bigger companies, smaller ventures have to define a strong company culture that attracts like-minded people.

One of our core principles is being able to work remotely. As an officeless company, we want to be able to work from wherever we are, regardless of our location or time-zone. As long as the work gets done, who cares where did you write your code from?

Lessons learnt: one year running our own business

Time flies. We have been so busy this year, that we have barely had time to look back to all the things we have accomplished thus far. Actually, it’s been a year and a month since we legally founded MarsBased.

One of the companies we look up to is Dockyard. They run a very inspirational blog, where they publish their experiences. This is a small homage to them and to this post, where they described the difficulties they faced during the first six months running a consultancy.

Here’s what we have learnt in this first year of operating full-time as service providers.

An internship out of this world

Last year, I completed my degree in Software Development, to begin my career in web development, I opted to go for an internship. Turns out, a good friend of mine had attended the first Ironhack edition in Barcelona, where he met a couple of MarsBased members and suggested that I applied for an internship here.

And this is how I met MarsBased. Let me tell you how it went!

Our new year's resolutions for 2015

2014 has been an amazing ride. It has seen us creating MarsBased, getting our first small projects, speaking at conferences, getting big projects, mentoring at IronHack, working for the Barcelona City Council, leading Startup Grind & Startup Circle, welcoming our first hires and many other amazing achievements.

In fact, we're preparing a detailed review of 2014 for you all to enjoy and discover what's been going on in the MarsBased spaceship.

While the 2014 post is being baked, we'll share with you our new year resolutions for this promising 2015!
