Startups are raising more money than ever, at incredibly high valuations, which increases the cost of developers, thus forcing other startups to raise even more money at an even crazier valuation.

It would seem that the only way to attract development talent is to be the hottest startup out there and splash the cash. But it's not.

It's that time of the year again. We have recently concluded our third year at MarsBased, and we want to share with you what we have learnt in the last 12 months running our fully-remote Ruby on Rails & Javascript development consultancy.

Every day, we see more and more companies with distributed workforces & remote teams. Some belong to the sharing economy while others do it because they’re a small team and prefer to work from their hometowns. Everyone has a reason for remote work, however there doesn’t seem to be a general consensus for how to create a 100% remote company. In this post, we’ll share a few tips that helped us build and maintain our culture when everyone works remotely.

In addition to being a development consultancy, we are very committed to helping entrepreneurs in our city. We offer a free consulting hour to pretty much everyone we cross paths with, in hopes that this will help them to get their company to the next level.

Over the course of the years, we have spotted a recurring trend among first-time entrepreneurs: they want to hire a CTO before they even need it. Sometimes, before they even know what a CTO is and does.

MarsBased just turned three years old! Coincidentally, we started our company at the same time as our buddies of IronHack, the leading development bootcamp in Barcelona, Madrid and Miami.

Along these three years, we have been collaborating in a lot of fronts: we teach and mentor there, we give keynotes, we've co-organised events, we've created joint content, they're coming in bulk to our Startup Grind events and we even hired people that completed their development bootcamp. In fact, last week, we became official partners in order to do more and better things together for the development community in Barcelona.

Since we have been collaborating with Ironhack for such a long time, and with some other bootcamps too, we can give you some tips to make the most of your experience in any of them.
